L.J. Bradleys C.N.R. Work History
One month after receiving his discharge from the R.C.A.F., Leonard Bradley got his first job on the C.N.R. as a relief agent to relieve J.H. Henry for his annual vacation. J.H. Henry was #1 on the seniority list he started February 15, 1906. Leonard worked steadily from October 5, 1945, to June 30, 1979, except for two or three weeks when he was bumped in early 1946. He took early retirement at age 60, as there was no penalty on the pension.
Leonard had learned Morse Code around 1937 or 1938 with a tape machine from Cassan Systems of Toronto, and had practiced with Otthon, Sask., Station Agent Gus J.A. Taylor and on some Saturday nights with Art Stearn at the C.P.R. station at Yorkton, Sask. He was telegraph messenger at the time.
Lens relief work was from October 5, 1945, to February 5, 1948, at 30 points. The jobs worked and approximate time periods are as follows:
