The 1233 is shown here crossing the double diamonds at Mikon. The
train is headed geographic south (SN West, YSL East) as it crosses the double tracks of the UP (SP Cal-P). |
Another shot at Mikon. This time the 1233 is waiting patiently for an
Amtrak Capitol to clear the diamonds. The Capitol is westbound, its next stop will be Davis, CA. Mikon is located at m.p. 86.9; about two miles west of the
Sacramento Depot. |
The 1233 has just crested the grade at Pumphouse Slough on a cool and
cloudy California day. Mike Florentine caught the 1233 with light smoke and lots of steam as the engineer plays the whistle approaching Tasco. |
SP 1233 and SP caboose 1156 (both part of the SVHR collection) are
westbound through West Sacramento on the former Sacramento Northern main to San Francisco. Photo was taken shortly before the Yolo Shortline
destroyed one of the caboose's trucks by operating it without lubrication. |
Lacking a water tower or column, the easiest way to take on water is with a fire
hose. Fortunately, the tender SP donated with the 1233 came with the needed fittings and valves already installed--guess they had the same
problem. |
