North of Las Cruces, the rugged isolation of the mountainous desert regions of
south central New Mexico begins to give way to the populous Rio Grande Valley
of southern New Mexico and far west Texas.
North of El Paso at Vinton, Texas (just south of the New Mexico-Texas state line), BNSF GP60M 120 does
some switching on the LNMX0053 (El Paso local) before heading north (timetable east) to
Mesilla Park, NM.
