Named for the victims of the Bataan Death March, El Paso's Bataan Memorial
Trainway provides a crossing-free corridor for UP trains to pass beneath the
northern edge of the city's downtown area. It begins at the western throat of
SP's yard east of downtown, and ends near El Paso Union Depot, a distance of
about 6 blocks. A small park located about 2 blocks east of El Paso Union
Depot offers a slightly elevated view of the west end of the trainway.
Photographed in March 2002, a maintenance crew uses a backhoe to load scrap
metal near the trainway's west end.
