Stone Bridge
Stone Bridge
I was born in Susquehanna in 1932 and resided with my parents, Alice and Raymond Lyons
on Washington Street, (west hill). Due to the economy, my father was forced to relocate in
Audubon, NJ, Near Camden. However in subsequent years, I had the good fortune to be able
to return to my "Home Town". I especially remember the centennial celebration
held in Lanesboro in 1948. The year the Stone Bridge was 100 years old. My Paternal
grandfather was Dr. Ray Lyons who practiced as general practitioner there until his death
in 1944. I visit the "Stone Bridge" every time I am in the area. I also
discovered the name "LYONS" had been carved in one of the arches on the East end
of the bridge. I remember JA Tower at the Jefferson Div. cutoff and also the Coach shops
and the Engine terminal complete with 13 stall Roundhouse in Susquehanna. We also always
try to go to The Depot for Dinner, whenever we are in town. Back in 1948, when things were
happening down there, I used to go there to get my haircuts so I could watch the trains go
through, the barber was Leon Bagley.
