Shore Line East Riders' Association Song

SHORE LINE EAST THIS MORNING

cCharlie King Pied ASP MUSIC (BMI)
To the tune of City of New Orleans by Steve Goodman

Riding on the Shore Line East this morning
Out of Saybrook, down the coastal line
Budget cutbacks haunt the restless riders
But the Amtrak crew still gets us to work on time
Westbound to New Haven, down
Thru wetlands of Long Island Sound
Rolls along past marshes, farms and fields
Herons float and seagulls dive
While out there on I-95
There's a five mile jam of one man automobiles
(Refrain)Good morning Connecticut how are you
Don't you know us, we are here to stay
On the train they call the Shore Line East this morning
'cuz ya just can't beat the S.L.E.R.A.
The Guv'nor has a budget he can't balance
Singles out Mass Transit for the ax
But the Shore Line East Riders' Association
Is organizing up and down the tracks
And the daughters of old mill hands
And the sons of engineers
Ride this modern magic carpet every day
They'll tell you it's their only way
To get to work, to earn their pay
Don't let 'em take the Shore Line East away
(Refrain)Good morning Connecticut how are you
Don't you know us, we are here to stay
On the train they call the Shore Line East this morning
'cuz ya just can't beat the S.L.E.R.A.

Tune: Humoresque (Passengers Will Please Refrain)
Budget planners please refrain
From slashing service while the train
Is carrying more riders every day
We encourage legislation
Backing Shore Line transporation
Yours sincerely S.L.E.R.A.
