Located in the middle of Parahyangan mountain,
to the East of Bandung, there is a small mountain railway station named Lebak
Jero. This idyllic station is located next the village with the same name
of the station. Being located in the mountain, and in rather quiet mainline,
this station rarely sees passing train. Perhaps its peak hours are in the
early morning and late afternoon, where several trains to/from Central and
East Java passes through. But little else can be seen outside those times.
Even all signals are cleared at night, since there are no train dispatchers
working at that time.
But it doesn't mean that this station is
not high on the railfan's list. It's spectacular scenery, pristine environment,
and quitness had made this place as one of the most challenging location for
railfans to visit. And this gallery will show you how does the area looks
like.
Just for additional note, the station cannot
be accessed by vehicle (even bycicle) as the entrance way is too steep and
slippery.

The panoramic view of Lebak Jero area.
The station can be seen on centre
left. Whereas the village is the the right of the station. A dormant volcano
can be seen in the background.
The departure signal is cleared for
the incoming Lodaya train.

Minutes after the above
photo was taken, the Lodaya train appeared from the hills, pulled by a
CC203 locomotive.
The hills around this area are hardly
disturbed by the villagers in the area, although some of them have been
planted by corns or rice.

The
same Lodaya train exiting Lebak Jero Station. The small station complex
can be seen on its tail. |

Another picture of the
Lodaya train, unless that this time is taken in the station emplaceent,
on the previous day.
The siding in Lebak Jero station is
the shortest station siding in West Java, where it can only accomodate
5 rolling stocks at one time. If the train consist more than that number,
it had to be directed to the terminus line, where the driver had to manouvre
the train, to put its tail on the opposite terminus line.

|
Just a few hundred metres
away, to the East of the station, we can see this breathtaking scenery,
complete with the dormant volcano as the background.
However, I was rather unlucky in this
occasion as there were no trains. Perhaps this group of farmers could
replace the presence of the trains.

About 2,5 km to the
East of Lebak Jero station there is a massive railway bridge that crossed
deep ravine. This bridge is the largest structure in this area.
Note a Surabaya-bound Pasundan train
is seen crossing the bridge.

Another view of the
bridge. Unless that this it's taken from the bottom of the ravine.
A Surabaya-bound Argo
Wilis train is seen crosses the bridge. Note a second-class dining car
on its tail, perhaps due the absence of its own dining car. This picture
also show you how long the bridge is, especially since the whole train
could fit on the top of the bridge at the same time.
