The second generation of standard gauge loco in Western Australia, the Q-class is GM's answer to GE's NR class loco. It was built to replace the aging L-class locos.
It is equipped with onboard computer. It has 4000 plus horsepower. Therefore it put them in the same league as NR loco.
Although unlike NRs, it only saw limited service outside Western Australia comparing with the NR who had ventured around Australia.
