Texas State Railroad #201
Texas State Railroad #201
#201 is the oldest and smallest locomotive operating on TSRR tracks. It is classified as a 4-6-0 “Ten Wheeler”.
#201 was built in 1901 by A.L. Cooke Locomotive Works for the Texas and Pacific Railroad. #201 is also the last operating T&P locomotive in existence. This engine was originally numbered 316 during it’s career on the T&P.
In 1949, the 316 was sold to the Paris & Mt. Pleasant Railroad, which was a T&P subsidiary. In 1951, the 316 was again sold to a woman who then donated the locomotive to the city of Abilene for the city’s 75th anniversary.
The locomotive remained on display at Oscar Rose Park in Abilene, wearing the number 75, until 1974, when it was donated to the Texas State Railroad and renumbered to #201.
In 2006, the #201 was extensively refurbished and has continued to ride the rails at TSRR since.
