1) I used the ping pong table to lay out my track design. I cut
1x4 and other wood scraps to make the inclines. As you can see the the
gradual incline allows for long trains. more
2) I disassembled the track, put a sheet of plastic over the table. Reinstalled the track, upside down. |

3) Gathered up all kinds of trash to define the desired contours.
4) Bond paper & masking tape are used to cover (but not distort) the surface that will become the road bed. |

5 & 6) Contours are smoothed using poster board, bags of shipping
'popcorn' and more bond.

7) Up to this point we have only been working on the plug, that will
define the layout, all this stuff is mearly defining the contour of the
layout.
8) With a second layer of plastic in place, we can now start working on the materials that will become the layout. |

9) I had some drywall joint compound that I used to as paste.
The paper is left over from a political campaign. The tunnel opening
must be carefully contoured.
10) One full layer did not take too long. |

11 & 12) I added a couple boards around the edges to push the paper down against the table surface. |
