Madison, WI
Illinois Central freight house
Here's a couple of pictures of the Madison Illinois Central freight house.
Following termination of passenger service over Illinois Central's Madison,
Wisconsin, branch during the 1940's the railroad's Madison passenger depot
was demolished, and IC moved the Madison agency across the street to their
freight house where it remained until the early 1970's until being closed.
After the railroad moved out the structure served as Jimmy Carter's Madison
campaign headquarters for a short period of time during the mid-1970's then
was sold to U-Haul for use as a trailer and moving equipment rental center,
which it still is today.
