Railfan Pictures of the Week - 11/17/2024 |
On May 29 2024 I visited an old stomping ground, Abrams Yard on NS Harrisburg Line. For most of the 1990's I was a regular here, usually visiting a few times a week, frequently during my lunch hour. Back then it was Conrail Blue with the occasional CSX Yellow, CP Red and NS Black. Now the difference is like black and white. I found the local power drilling the yard with SD60E NS 7021 and ... |
SD60E NS 6984, rebuilt from SD60 NS 6611 and 6641 respectively. |
The other power in the yard was mixed in age, with old GP38-2 NS 5635 (GP38 SOU 2769) and GP40-2 3025 (CR 3322 and CSX 4419), and new SD70ACe NS 1177 which already has mismatching number boards even though it is only five years old. |
I heard a crackle on the scanner just in time to drive a mile south to Bridgeport to catch 38G about to arrive at Abrams to do its work. Leading was AC44C6M NS 4619 ... |
and C44-9W NS 9909. The C40-9W/C44-9W aka Catfish were once the most common engine in the NS stable in the early 21st century with nearly 1,100 units, but through disposal and rebuilding to AC44C6M's (4619 was once 9412), their numbers have dwindled to a few hundred. |
On the hind end was another C44-9W, NS 9911 ... |
and SD70ACe NS 1159 with its matching as-delivered numberboards. |
Back at Abrams, 38G pulls up to the office as the local power lets the 38G crew run in to get paperwork. |
