Railfan Pictures of the Week - 10/20/2024 |
The weekend in Lansdale that started on May 17 2024 began with the evening closure of the Main Street grade crossing at the station. |
Although there are four tracks at the station, only one needed attention, Track 1. This was due to a defect that could not be corrected within the constraints of the "bathtub" style concrete panels. The previously installed panels, dating back to April 2007, are of an older design where the rails are dropped into and anchored to the concrete panels without the use of ties. While ties are spaced about 20 inches apart, the concrete panels were over twice as long and did not allow for more accurate adjustments. The new concrete panels will sit on top of the ballasted ties and allow for finer adjustments in the future. |
A GradAll was brought in to start the process by removing the asphalt on either side of Track 1. |
By the next morning, the tracks had been removed and the area was being prepped for the new ties. |
