Railfan Pictures of the Week - 11/28/2021 |
Pennsylvania Northeastern Lansdale Yard and Bethlehem Branch October 12 and 15 2021 |
On most days, if you wander up to Lansdale PA, you will find GP9M PN 7010 sitting in the yard. With SD60 PN 8711 shipped out and sister 8701 on the bench along with C39-8 PN 8212, most of the work is handled by the Tiger Twins, SD40-2W PN 5342 and 5315. |
On special days, though, you will see PN 7010 doing what it was intended to do: working the Soap. |
When PN initially took over the branch, they tried to service the Soap with the six axle power on hand, but the tight curves proved to be too tight. Spacer cars were used, but what it really needed was a diminutive four axle. Supposedly for this purpose, ex-CN GP9M 7010 and 7210 were acquired in 2012 and 2013 repectively. |
