Railfan Pictures of the Week - 2/2/2020

CSX Greenwich Yard Philadelphia PA January 25 2020

An odd coincidence: Although it was not what I planned for the day, I wound up in this exact same spot on the same day 8 years earlier.

Despite recent tribulations in the energy market (PES bankruptcy and ethanol waivers), unit tank trains continue in and out of Philadelphia. Here empty ethanol train CSX K603 pulls out of Greenwich Yard in South Philadelphia, taking a string of tank cars west out of the partially flooded yard.

As is usual for these trains, it was pulled by foreign power, in this case lease unit AC44CW CEFX 1029 ...
and Union Pacific SD70M UP 4115 ...
followed by a hundred or so cars. It is interesting to note the autoracks in the distance, cars that can now make it all the way to Philadelphia thanks to the double stack clearance project on the Philadelphia Subdivision.
