Railfan Pictures of the Week - 12/01/2019 |
Pennsylvania Northeastern Railroad Bethlehem Branch and Lansdale Yard Lansdale PA October 7 2019 |
As a follow up to last week's photo essay highlighting ESPN/EPRY getting some new power, this week's features PN plodding along with its old power. Crossing Schwab Road, PN L160 works the inbounds that were dropped off by CSX C746. |
SD40-2W PN 5342 and C39-8 PN 8212 wandering through the tall weeds north of Orvilla Road. |
While the line lost one of its best customers when Jet Plasica/D&W Fine Foods finally closed for good in March 2018, there has been an uptick in refrigerator cars for both PN and ESPN customers. |
What was the former Reading Company Bethlehem Branch South Main is PN's Bethlehem Industrial Track and has been cut into segments. It now consists of several sidings off the Running Track: from the Lansdale Yard north to Schwab (above), from Orvilla Road to Vine Street in Hatfield (below), from Cold Storage to Bergey Road in Hatfield, from Main Street to Third Street in Souderton. |
The highlight of the Pennsylvania Northeastern has been the continued operation of the only functioning C39-8 left in the United States. |
But the new guy is back in town, and the 8212's days may finally be numbered. Of course, we've heard that before ... and it didn't take. |
