Railfan Pictures of the Week - 07/28/2019 |
Amtrak Northeast Corridor Torresdale, Cornwells Heights and Eddington Stations July 24 and 26 2019 |
Just east of Torresdale Station, Amtrak Northeast Regional Train 180 passes an inbound SEPTA push pull. |
On the tail end of 180 was US Department of Transportation and Federal Railroad Administration High-Speed Research Vehicle DOTX 216. The car is former Metroliner coach PRR/PC 803 that was later converted to Amtrak cab car AMTK 9642 before becoming DOTX T-16 and then 216. |
Up at Sunnyside Yard in NYC, the train was turned as 125 with ACS-64 AMTK 651 leading again at Cornwells Heights. |
"The DOTX216 is a converted Amtrak Metroliner coach equipped with a track geometry measurement system, a rail profile measuring system, a multi-car ride quality measuring system, and other state-of-the-art instrumentation for conducting railway research. DOTX216 is capable of making track measurements at speeds up to 165 mph and serves as a high-speed track research instrumentation platform for a variety of tests and research projects in the Office of Research and Development. DOTX216 is also used to support efforts undertaken by the FRA's Office of Safety." |
The car made the same runs on Friday, here on 180 at Eddington. |
Amtrak ACS-64 AMTK 612 was pulling duty on this day as it takes the east curve at Torresdale. |
