Railfan Pictures of the Week - 05/19/2019

New Hope and Ivyland Railroad Warminster PA and SEPTA Main Line North Wales and Lansdale PA May 17 and 18 2019

In preparation for Saturday's excursions commemorating the 150th anniversary of the founding of North Wales Borough, New Hope and Ivyland Railroad bought steam engine NHRR 40 and several of its passenger cars down to Warminster Friday.
The move to Lansdale began about 01:20 Saturday morning and after a few inspection stops along the way, passed through North Wales around 03:45. Led by "Tiger Lady" SD40-2 PN 5342, the consist included a dump gondola full of coal.
Trailing the passenger cars were NHRR 40 and GP30 NHRR 2198.
The steam engine and passenger cars were wyed at Lansdale so that 40 would be making the dramatic entrance into North Wales for the excursion runs.
The move from Lansdale to North Wales the next morning was led by SEPTA genset SPAX 80, here making a little smoke (out of jealousy perhaps considering the starring motive power on the other end???)
For the ride down to Gwynedd Valley, NHRR 40 would be taking a back seat.
While it may be a bystander on the way down, every return trip was 40's moment to shine, and puff, and chuff, and belch, and chug, and whistle.
From the size of the crowds, the excursions were a hit.
There may not have been crowds on the Gwynedd Valley end, but those who were there were in for a treat when 40 started high stepping.
It was rather subdued on its arrival in North Wales on the last trip of the day.
Shortly after the last passenger disembarked, the special ran back up to Lansdale and shoved into the yard where the crew and staff posed for pictures with the engine.
