Railfan Pictures of the Week - 02/24/2019

Pennsylvania Northeastern Railroad Lansdale Yard Lansdale PA February 1 and 14 2019

In a few short months, the apartments at Madison Lansdale Station will open in Lansdale PA, and if you wanted to live some place that was railroad adjacent, this might be your ticket. Usually you would get a choice between either passenger or freight operations, but Lansdale features not only both, but also two different freight operations. The new apartments are a short walk from SEPTA Lansdale Station and most provide a good view of Pennsylvania Northeastern's Lansdale Yard.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, you can find the PN power along side the CSX C746 power, usually a trio of GP40-2's in the 6200's, while it lays over before returning home that night. CSX runs out of Woodbourne Yard on the CSX Trenton Line, getting to Lansdale via either the SEPTA Neshaminy Line and Main Line if they have no high cars, or NS Morrisville Line, SEPTA Norristown Line and Stony Creek Branch when they do.

Currently joining C39-8 PN 8212 are GP30 NHRR 2198 (pinch hitting for PN 5342 while it gets some maintenance work done) ...
and GP9M PN 7010. PN's local operations are on an as-needed basis Monday through Friday at all hours. The PN crews will always call the SEPTA 1 dispatcher on 160.590 when they start and end a shift (L160 during the day around 08:00, W230 at night) with the call going something like "PN L160 would like to get permission to occupy the Bethlehem Runner north of the derail", and PN uses 160.500 once they are cleared by SEPTA. L160 runs from Lansdale north to work the local customers and to interchange with ESPN in Telford. W230 works Lansdale Warehouse on the SEPTA Doylestown Branch, Best Foods on SEPTA Warminster Branch and interchange with New Hope and Ivyland at Warminster/Ivyland.
The exteriors and interiors of the apartments are being completed and following that, attention will turn to the surrounding area including the Liberty Bell Trail and the plaza in front of Building 1. With the opening of the apartments, it is expected that the SEPTA parking garage will be open 24/7 as originally announced and when the weather finally warms, the entire downtown hopefully will bustle with new activity.
