Railfan Pictures of the Week - 08/06/2017 |
CSX Trenton Line CP Berry Philadelphia PA July 6 2017 |
CSX W951 empty tie gondola work train approaches CP Berry on the siding. |
Tier 4 Compliant ET44AH CSX 3292 was the lone power, which was more than capable of handling the empties. |
The gondolas were originally built to hold much denser and heavier commodities like scrap metal and steel and have a load capacity up to 70 tons. When converted for maintenance of way service, the extensions were added to the sides allow the cars to carry more of the much lighter wooden ties. |
CSX's standard color for MOW equipment is orange, as illustrated by CSXT 914637 .... |
and a lighter version on CSXT 914738. |
Still others like CSXT 914582 appear at first glance to have faded a bit to a Pepto Bismal pink. |
That is until you notice a bit of pink repaint on a gondola like CSXT 914505. |
For modelers, it makes for an interesting variety in what would normally be an ordinary train. |
One last shot, in case you were wondering what the inside of the cars looked like. |
