Railfan Pictures of the Week - 02/19/2017 |
October 2000 |
With the Conrail split came a division of the equipment, and by the fall of 2000, the markings for the engines indentifying their new owners were changing almost daily, especially for NS. With such a pace often comes variety. For some units, they kept their Conrail number and got a decal on the battery box, either the PRR or NS. |
Somebody had some blue paint lying around, so these happened. If all you are used to are black and white, maybe all blues start to look the same. |
The favored patch seemed to be white with black letters and numbers. Sometimes the area where they were destined to be operated was added, such as CHAPMAN or POTTSTOWN. |
Another version was a black patch with white letters and numbers. |
The interlocking PRR was a nice touch. |
And then there is this. Guess someone did not like the first version. |
Of course, all of this mishegas would only be temporary. Conrail CR 6101 was one of the early ones to get a completely new paint job, taking the black as NS 8343 in June 1999. |
