Railfan Pictures of the Week - 01/01/2017 |
Philadelphia Sports Complex South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania August 2000 |
The Republican National Convention was held in Philadelphia in August of 2000 and Union Pacific brought most of its office car fleet to the city for the event. |
Some of the cars were spotted on existing trackage along Darien Street. |
The rest of the fleet was parked in the shadow of Veterans Stadium, on temporary track in what would eventually become the parking lot for Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Eagles, and across from what would become Citizens Bank Park, home of the Phillies. |
The majority of temporary tracks were laid on rubber cushions on the asphalt ... |
while a few cars rested on simple ties and rails (the Spectrum to the left, the Vet to the right). |
The Union Pacific power that accompanied the train, E9 949 and 951, was displayed on either side of Pattison Avenue. |
