Conrail Morrisville Line CP MA Oxford Valley PA January 1999

Conrail train MOPI Morrisville to Pittsburgh is passing through CP MA interlocking and is approaching CP Lang heading west on the Morrisville Line with a pair from the last batch of locomotives ostensibly built for Conrail, SD70 CR 2569 and 2571. The last true Conrail locomotives were actually the SD80MAC's, and after receiving the initial run of 28, 108 more were on order, but then the split happened. Instead of SD80MAC's, CSX opted to change their portion of the order to 15 SD70MAC's and NS, not being fans of AC units, ordered 24 SD70's for their share and had them numbered into the NS system sequence. The track to the right is the remnants of former Fairless Branch of the Reading Railroad, which used to run all the way to U. S. Steel's Fairless Works. It was cut back to CP MA by Conrail where it connects to the former PRR Trenton Cutoff. The branch is used by Conrail to connect the former PRR Morrisville Yard and the former RDG Woodbourne Yard on the Trenton Line.
