Railfan Pictures of the Week - Throwback Thursday - 10/22/2020 |
Conrail Harrisburg Line CP Belmont Philadelphia PA June 1996 |
Conrail American Crane CR 92547 (the former Lehigh Valley LV 95590) and its trusty sidekick MOW gondola PC 35701 (the former NYC 716548 still in Penn Central yellow) just east of CP Belmont in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park. The section of track between the former Reading Company rails at Belmont and the former Pennsylvania Railroad rails at Zoo was originally constructed during the 1860's as part of the Junction Railroad, which was merged into the PRR in 1908. When Conrail took over the operations of RDG and PRR in 1976, it became part of the its Harrisburg Line. The crane and gondola duo went to CSX but stayed with Conrail Shared Assets Operations in Pavonia NJ after the NS/CSX split. |
