History:

Line built between V & S Jct. and Valsetz by Boise-Cascade's Valley & Siletz Railroad in 1916.

Line abandoned by V&S beyond Pedee in 1978.

Line further abandoned to only three miles of track to Stapleton by 1979.

V&S Jct. to Independence segment purchased by WVRD on January 2, 1985. Rest abandoned.

Willamina & Grand Ronde Railway merged into WVRD on March 10, 1986.

Willamina & Grand Ronde Railway "un-merged" on March 1, 1988.

Independence line abandoned in December 1993 following closure of Mountain Fir mill.

Woodburn to Stayton, Geer to Salem, and Albany to Mill City lines leased from SP and operations began on February 22, 1993.

Geer - Salem line abandoned in 1995.

The formerly leased lines purchased on September 21, 1996.
