As the train passed the Pier 400 lead
track , PHL
Trainmaster Richard Guindon waved from the grade crossing.
PHL uses hybrid passenger vehicles as another contribution to clean air
at the ports.
Below, Ocean Blvd overpass of the
Hanjin Terminal lead track.
Below left, Vincent Thomas Bridge in
the distance. The intermodal
train is likely going to American President Line Global Gateway South
or the APL storage yard. Below right, the center and right track
are Alameda Corridor (ACTA) tracks.
The corridor tracks cross a deep
ocean channel via the double tracked Badger Bridge. The railroad
is set up to have four tracks on each side of the bridge, allowing for
a multitude of track routing combinations. Badger Bridge was
replaced as part of the Alameda Corridor project. The old bridge
was single track. Remnants are still visible as the top of rail
elevation is higher than the old elevation.
Below left, the control center for the
Badger Bridge and also dispatch
office for the railroad. PHL dispatches BNSF Railway and Union
Pacific in the ports area.
The train has descended from the 200'
tall Badger Bridge towards CP
Dominguez.
