There were many great views
of the over 14,000 foot Mt. Shasta.
Finally we got into town and
before we were flagged across the highway, a northbound Southern
Pacific, uh, Union Pacific freight train rumbled by. That was the
moment my camera batteries decided to be completely depleted.
Fortunately, another motorcar owner, Bill Rust was able to provide a
nice shot of the
motorcars and lead engine.
After a very short layover, the cars
were
again turned around and we proceeded back towards the switchback.
The West Side Lumber Company motorcar
was again behind us.
Apparently, they behaved since I have no photograph with evidence to
the contrary. Below right, some locals were out for a Sunday
drive.
We had planned to stop at a curve
named Big Canyon which had excellent views of
Mt. Shasta. This worked out good since the motorcars could be
photographed with Shasta in the backround.
Eventually, the portion of the track
below the switchback came into
view.
