We are climbing a minor pass in advance of more climbing in an open
area with large sweeping curves.
This area of the railroad has been
realigned over time.
Originally it featured tight small radius curves which were later
enlarged with vastly increased raduis. Interestingly, some curves
enter a reverse curve before changing direction through the main
curve. Going back to Topoquest, original
curves are shown. On google maps satellite view, the old
curving alignment is visible along with the realignment. Search

In 2.5 miles we have climbed and changed direction a number of
times. Below left, we are at one end of a siding at Grand View.
Below is a view of the are which we had just traversed. The large
radius curves are barely visible. We are getting further away
from the fire which had been burning for several days already.
