Inside the FRX, Chris Skow spends a
few minutes with some of the car
attendants. On the opposite side of the river, our presence is
being recorded for posterity.
Notice the manmade appearance of the river lining. It is grouted
to prevent scouring our of the road. We are roughly half way
between Belden and Twain.
In the vicinity of 12 Mile Bar Road.
Below right is the view out the round lounge end window of the Silver
Solarium.
Keddie is a spectacular rail junction where the track exits a tunnel
and a turnout separates the Feather River Route from the Inside
Gateway. This point was allowed the WP to interchange with the
Great Northern Railway at Bieber, CA. It is persently owned and
operated by the BNSF Railway. What if a future Feather River
Express could take this line up to Lake Almanor and still lay over at
Portola?
The Keddie Wye is impressive with 2 legs over Spanish Creek. The
FRX is on the west leg and the view is of the north leg. The
invisible leg is mostly in a tunnel.
The train make its way towards Quincy, located in a nice valley in the
Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Quincy Junction is above right. The Quincy Railroad is visible in
both views below.
