The climb through the eastern Sierra Nevada is somewhat steeper than the western slopes.

The flume was present along the river and railroad.

Chatting with Chris Skow in the dome was a Boeing Company employee and his wife from Maple Valley Washington.  Being a railfan, he said he likes to visit the Stampede Pass area in Washington state which as been receiving more rail traffic recently.  They came to California specifically for this Domes Over Donner tour.

Interstate 80 parallels the railroad through Donner Pass.  The passing cars were throwing rainwater off the pavement.  We probably used sand on the rails.
