Last time I had seen UP1989 was on a
very hot day in Salt Lake City Utah for the class
photo of Union Pacific Heritage locomotives. This is now the
second heritage unit I have seen at a Family Day event. The
Southern Pacific heritage unit was at the combined Dolores and ICTF
Fanily Day during the summer. Coupled to UP1989 was a GenSet
switcher. UP paraded green
technology around California in spring 2007.
UP engineer Robert (Schoonie)
Schoonmaker on board the heritage unit with Fang the wonder dog, his
rescued, one tooth friend. I wonder if the yard dog has a good
job?
Wayne Baker was taking photographs as
usual.
People were allowed to board the
UP1989, walk up the running board to the cab and visit.
Below, the UPY2728 was looking
handsome.
Near the roundhouse, other
locomotives were waiting their turn for maintenance. Just to
prove old things become new again, notice the center cab GenSet
switcher. Both types of switcher have horns on each end.
