Alaska Railroad Hurricane Turn Flagstop Train

Talkeetna to Hurricane Gulch

July 29, 2007

The final miles back to Talkeetna were as good as all of the others.  Time of day along this railroad make a difference, especially between Anchorage and Seward.

Meanwhile, back at Sherman City Hall, they were waiting for us.  The ladies probably did the same wave for the southbound Denali Star.

Below, the railroad is installing a loop track for transport of gravel.  The graded roadbed is very visible in the lower right photograph.

There is a pedestrian trail paralleling the railroad on the northern outskirts of Talkeenta.  In the lower left view, the trail crosses a creek separately from the track.  Lower right, the trail is hung from the right side of the railroad truss bridge.

Thanks to Engineer Dana Godfrey and Conductor Buddy Gray.

This was my first full day on my 2007 trip.  I spent 3 nights in Talkeetna with plenty of time to explore town.  The major question which I gave no thought to was would the weather stay as nice?  To find out the answer to the question, go to the next page!
