Alaska Railroad Denali Star

Talkeetna to Anchorage

On both sides of the train, the same airplane is visible.

Below left is an old Alaska Railroad water tower.  It has been bought by a private party and moved off the railroad onto an adjacent property.  Quite a few miles later, I noticed this area with railroad construction material.

Pre-assembled track panels are stacked up in the lower left photograph.

The below two photogaphs show a line change from several years ago.  The new alignment goes through a cut slope area.

We had a meet with a northbound freight train.

More views of abandoned right-of-way and realignment.

For most cut slopes, there is a nearby fill slope.  Here the train travels over a multi-thousand cubic yard fill.
