After a few minutes, I joined a tour
around the observation deck around
the Space Needle. Tour guides are knowledgeable and informative
about the history and development of Seattle. The view from 600
feet up is quite extensive. Inside the observation deck there is
a nice historical display of the development of the Space Needle and
its refurbishment several years ago.
Lake Washington, lower left, is known
for having a large number of houseboats.
After leaving the Space Needle, I
walked back along the length of Alaskan Way to the King Street Station
area with a stop at Ivars Acres of Clams for a bowl of clam chowder and
a beer. While at Ivars, a nice thunderstorm hit then tapered off
allowing me to check out the Wahington State Ferry landing next door.
My next stop was Pyramid Alehouse
near the baseball stadium. The
place was packed since there was a game that evening. I worked my
way back to the airport for the next fiasco with Alaska Airlines which
caused me to miss my connecting flight to Anchorage. Lesson
learned is as follows: If you have a long layover, check-in for
your connecting flight before leaving the airport!
All things considered, I did have a very nice day in Seattle.
