I have enjoyed meals aboard long distance on occasion.

Modern trains are ultimately powered by electricity.  Diesel-electric locomotives move by electric traction motors.  The electricity is created by burning fossil fuel in an internal combustion engine or prime mover.  Other power systems include overhead catenary which distributes electricity to the locomotive via direct contact with an overhead wire or a shoe contacting a third rail.  Amtrak Acela trains use the catenary system.
