Cal Simmons is constructing a 30 X 70 largescale railroad in the backyard of his home in Rifle. The railroad is a basic rectangle with a double track main and passing sidings. Off of the long sides are two spurs that lead into the center and will eventually have some industry, a yard and will connect to each other. The upper end is palced in a cut and has a pvc pipe tunnel. The lower end has a trestle in the planning stages. While there is a grade between the two ends, it is small and doesn't seem to bother Cal's D&RGW SD40's. Cal hosted an open house in November that was attended by Doug MacDonald, Dick Maddock, Don Taylor, Jay Buchanan, and Robert Ryan. We ran trains all afternoon and then Cal gave us a tour of his N scale home layout. We all look forward to going back to see the progress. Many pictures will be forthcoming and Robert spent a lot of time with his video camera either in a gondola or holding it for runby's.
