Rochester Area S-Gaugers 2009 Scrapbook Edition
Rochester Area S-Gaugers, Rochester, NY

Our Scrapbook

Our Scrap book contains pictures of recent shows or visits to member's and their friend's layouts. While the primary focus of our club is S scale, hi-rail and American Flyer, we enjoy fine model layout craftsmanship no matter what the scale/gauge. Therefore, there may be a few reports of non S scale/gauge visits on this page as the year progresses.
Meeting minutes and some e-mail notes about club business that we have shared with each other are posted on this page.

Links to pages with photos and notes on recent Shows and Exhibits are at the bottom of this page. Also see
Our Scrapbook Archive
for reports on our shows, meeting notes and all the fun we have had in previous years.

During last year we were fortunate to get access to a school room at a closed Parochial school. Regular hours are Tuesday nights from 7-9 PM. For train shows we load the layout into member's vehicles and set up at the show. After the show we deliver the layout back to the school room, normally on the next Tuesday.

Maintenance has always been a problem with the layout stored somewhere and us not having been able to correct problems that involve more than one module. With the switching yard, 2 train operation on the inner main, and Flyer accessories it is surprising how many wires there are under the modules and hidden by the skirts, The wiring has to be rugged enough to stand disconnect and reconnect for each set up. We plan to install corrugated cardboard on the bottom of the modules to avoid damage incurred by sliding them into a pickup.
The above comments were supplied by Chuck Smith.

The first big news of January 2009 is that our club room has moved. Due to renovations to Medley Centre, where our club room was located, it became necessary to make the move. Our club room is now located at the former Our Lady of Mercy school, 600 Denise Road in Greece, New York.
Webmaster's note; due to the closing of the Our Lady of Mercy Parish the club has had to move again to a new location.

Genesee Society of Model Engineers Club Spring Show
at
Batavia Downs Race Track, Batavia, New York

The Genesee Society of Model Engineers Club invited the Western New York S Scale Association and Rochester Area S-Gaugers to exhibit our combined modular layouts at their spring show on March 29, 2009. Overall the show went well. We and the Buffalo club both found that we had a dead section in the main loops when we started, so that trains would only run half way around the layout and stop. We soldered up rail gaps which fixed those and we were OK. The two-train control wouldn't work, which Roger Delthony found was because we were missing a relay. We ran without it. Roger Delthony, Dave Daniel, Craig Erickson and Chuck Smith were in attendance at this show. Sorry, photos were not available at the time of this report.

Shamrock Toy Train Collectors Society Show
at
The Diplomat Banquet Center

We set up our modular layout in a ten foot by twenty foot configuration on March 1st for the TTCS SHAMROCK Show at the Diplomat Banquet Center. We had a few more problems than normal but, our guests seemed to enjoy our modular layout. We have pictures and notes on this show.
