WESTERN NEW YORK S SCALE ASSOCIATION
October 14, 2008
The September meeting was held at Mike Barren’s home. Ray Abbott, Don Webster, and Gregg Mummert attended.
We discussed the recent NASG convention in Lowell, MA. Gregg had some pictures and literature from the convention for perusing. To see some pictures from the tours and layouts, go to http://s-scale.org/albums/main.php/v/friends/gmummert/ and click on “NASG ’08.
In addition to the convention information, Mike had a stack of American Flyer Collectors Club “The Collector” magazines to check out. There were also S Helper Service Updates, the new American Models catalog, Franklin Mint catalog...
We got to see Mike’s Flyer collection and layout in operation. He had a Northern freight, a “Silver Flash (?)” freight, and a New Haven electric passenger train running on his layout.
Don brought an article from the Buffalo News about the Train Stop Restaurant on Harlem Rd in Cheektowaga and suggested we may want to have a lunch meeting there in the future. Anyone want to check it out and let us know?
We have had several work sessions on the 4’x8’ layout over the past months. The backdrop is built, scenery is started, and the wiring is planned and in progress thanks to Harry Morath, Roger Huff, Frank Schenk, Lew Cabello, Tom Koziol, John Ondesko, Paul Wachowicz, Don, and Gregg (did I miss anyone?). We will continue to work on the layout to get it ready in case we need it for an upcoming show. Watch for email notices of the next work sessions. These are usually held on Wednesday nights at Paul’s home.
We have been contacted by the TTOS for the show at the Leonard Post and the GSME for the show in Batavia. Both clubs want us to bring our modules again for the upcoming shows. Anyone have any modules ready for display at either or both shows?
The TTOS show is Sunday, October 26, at the Leonard Post on Walden Avenue next to Super Flea. We can use your help setting up in the morning (7-ish), running trains during the show, and tear-down in the afternoon (2:30-ish). Please plan to attend and let Don Webster ( email@example.com, 716-947-4558) know your availability. Don and Gregg plan to bring their straight sections and will be setting up in the same area we have been for the past shows.
Two weeks later, on Sunday,November 9, the GSME show is at Batavia Downs. Again, we can use everyone’s help setting up in the morning (7:30-ish), running trains throughout the show, and tear-down in the afternoon (3-ish). Please plan to attend this show as well and let Don Webster ( firstname.lastname@example.org, 716-947-4558) know your availability also. Lew Cabello has said he will be bringing his straight modules and we are waiting to hear from Paul Wachowicz about his modules. We have contacted the Rochester club (RASG) and are waiting to see if they are available and are bringing modules also. We will have the same amount of space for the layout but it might be in a different area of the hall.
The TCA is offering two AF cars this year – a Santa Fe Grand Canyon Line reefer and a Hoover Dam Power Co depressed flat with a transformer. The TTOS is adding to their line of Smokey the Bear cars with the third car being a flatcar and a National Parks Service airplane.
Our next meeting will be at
The PEGASUS RESTAURANT on
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23, at 1 PM:
5748 South Park
This is the same weekend as the WNYRHS show at the Agricenter if anyone wants to attend prior to the meeting. Let Gregg know if you are attending so we get a table to accommodate everyone.
