We met on September 28th at The Lodge in Elma for lunch.  Ron Kemp, Torby Barker, Harry Morath, Mike Barren, Bud Rindfleisch, Bill Barren, Ray Abbott, and Gregg Mummert attended.

Torby told us about his recent trip to Texas where he acquired some Flyer Pikemaster equipment and several Hartoy trucks.  He also worked at the Texas Railroad Museum on some of their equipment while he was there.  Torby has a new SHS Conrail SW9 for sale – contact him if you are interested.  And he showed us some shaker shingle backing that he uses for roadbed.

Bud saw a system in Popular Science that will remove moisture from your basement (or train room).  A copy of the article is attached, or go to these websites:

He also brought the S scale Corvettes he picked up at the Dollar Tree.  The pack includes a ’53 and a 2000 Vette for $1.  They can be used as keychains, which can be omitted during assembly.

Gregg brought the 2002 Hallmark Miniature Harley Davidson that is close to S scale.  This year’s model is a ’58 Duo Glide.  Check it out at Hallmark’s website under 2002 Keepsake ornaments (http://www.hallmark.com).  He also circulated a recent article from The Buffalo News about the WNYRHS looking for a site for a museum in Buffalo to display their equipment.

Some of the things we discussed were making turnouts, the TCA meet at York and who is going, the progress of Harry’s train room, the progress of Torby’s layout, American Models’ FM, SHS new hoppers (watch for Genesee & Wyoming)…

It turns out that the owner of The Lodge has “L” (you know…the stuff with that mysterious extra rail in the middle?).  Torby asked him if he has any space available in the attic or basement of the restaurant for a layout.  The owner is interested in us building an S scale layout and allowing us to meet there.  Since Harry lives nearby and frequents the restaurant, he will check back with the owner to see when he has cleared space in the basement.  We will take a look at the space, see what there is to offer, and what the terms will be.  Watch for updates on this opportunity.

Current issues of S Gaugian, TCA HQ News, TTOS Bulletin, CTT, Trains, Model Railroader, and Clem’s York Primer were on hand for perusing.

There didn’t appear to be any interest or commitment to operating the modules at either Paul Regan’s show or the upcoming TTOS show.

Annual dues were received from Ron, Torby, Harry, Mike, Bill, Ray, Bud, and Gregg. There is enough postage for 1 more mailing of our meeting notes.  If you want to stay on our mailing/email list, please send your annual dues of $5 to Gregg or bring to the next meeting.

As we were leaving, a short northbound Norfolk Southern freight finally went by.

Our next meeting will be on Sunday, October 20th, at 1 PM, at Harry Morath’s home:
11 Summerdale Drive
Lancaster
716-651-0478
Let Harry know if you will be attending so he can plan accordingly.  Tentative future meetings are November – open (anyone?, Batavia?), December - Ron, January – Gregg, February - Bud.

As always, I need ideas and volunteers for future meetings – how about someone who hasn’t hosted a meeting yet?  As you can see, you do not need to have a layout.  Let me know where and when.
