Our April meeting was held at Don Webster’s home. Paul Wachowicz, Bud Rindfleisch, Ray Abbott, and Gregg Mummert attended.
Gregg obtained a replacement headlight bulb for the club’s American Models FA and he “repaired” the club’s AF 282 by disconnecting the smoke unit for the time being. Both units will be ready for the Fall shows.
We still have some scenery work to do on the 4’x8’ layout but have suspended work sessions through the summer. We will start again in September so the layout will be ready for the Fall shows. Watch for the work schedule in future newsletters.
The club purchased an LTI Flyer Santa Fe log dump car for one of the sidings on the 4’x8’ layout and may purchase another operating car for the other siding too.
By the way, if you didn’t get it in last month’s “APRIL FOOL” edition, there was NO monetary prize for last year’s Club Contest. And, we are NOT planning a trip on July 4th to the Miniature Wunderland HO Layout, in Hamburg, GERMANY (not NY).
Several things we discussed at the meeting - WNYRHS equipment, Beaver Island and Crystal Beach trains…
We also discussed a club “secret project” for this year. If anyone is interested in participating this year, let Paul and Bud know.
The recent NASG “Dispatch,” SHS Update newsletter, “L” catalog, and Bar Mill information were available for perusing. Also, copies of articles from Emil Suda were circulated.
Don still has several bags of “S” scale figures if anyone is interested - they are going fast. He also has “O” and “HO” scale available too. Contact Don for details (firstname.lastname@example.org , 716/947-4558).
Several members attended the recent TCA meet in York. And, several members are making plans to attend the Spring Spree near Cleveland in May, the NASG convention in St. Louis in August, and the Smelt Festival in Lewiston.
We checked out Don’s layout and the progress he has made since the last time we visited. He is continuing to add buildings, detail, and scenery in between running trains. Paul brought his Santa Fe Galloping Goose and ran it on the layout.
John Ondesko won the 50/50. Amazing since he did not attend the meeting! John - you can collect your winnings from Paul.
In talking to members of the Rochester Area S Gaugers at the Batavia show, they are currently renting a classroom in one of the local Catholic schools that closed recently. The rent is nominal and is covered by the donations the club receives from displaying their layout at train shows. This gives them a space to work on their modules between shows and possibly build a “permanent” layout if they desire. Food for thought if any members are interested in finding a location locally.
The next meeting will be at Red Top Hotdogs on Sunday, May 31, at 1 PM.
3360 Big Tree Road & Route 5
The Red Top is across Route 5 from the lake. And, if anyone is interested in “train watching,” the tracks cross Big Tree Road just east of the Red Top. Bring binoculars, cameras, and lawn chairs. Let Gregg know if you plan to attend (email@example.com , 585/655-3127, 716/866-2989).
AS ALWAYS, WE NEED IDEAS AND/OR VOLUNTEERS FOR FUTURE MEETINGS. WE DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING SCHEDULED AT THIS TIME.
