The April meeting had to be canceled due to a death in Harry's family. He will host the May meeting instead.
We set up our modules at the GSME show in Batavia recently in conjunction with the Rochester Area S Gaugers. We took our corners and some straights and RASG brought several straights and their 2' bridge modules. The layout was approximately 32' X 10'. Operation was fairly smooth after resolving a small electrical problem. 3 - 4 RASG members (Chuck Smith, George Cole, Wolfgang Faust) and about 10 (?) WNYSSA members (Don Webster, Harry Morath, Bud Rindfleisch, Lew Cabello and his son, Dave LaGraves, Paul Wachowicz, Bill Barren, Mike Barren, Ray Abbott, and Gregg Mummert) assisted with the display. RASG will be posting Don's pictures of the layout on their websiteand we will send the link when it is available. GSME made a donation to our treasury and has invited us back again in the Fall - more on this later.
( RASG webmaster's note: The pictures of this show were posted on May 7, 2007. Click here to see the pictures of this event. )
Gregg sold the last of the Don's ballast at the show and added a few $$ to the treasury.
Several members attended the recent TCA show in York, PA, and reported bringing home some "S" treasures!
On Wednesday, 4/18, a Norfolk Southern coach (?) and observation car were sitting in the Gang Mills yard near Painted Post behind a NS engine. On Sunday, 4/22, another (or the same?) NS coach (?) and observation car were seen parked in Duncannon, PA (north of Harrisburg) behind a NS engine. Anyone have any info on these cars? Could they have been the same pair?
Did anyone make it to the recent NYC Historical Society show on Grand Island or their excursion from Lockport? Were the E8's running or on display in Medina? Anyone get any pictures? Several members have expressed an interest to go to Medina again as a club activity to see the E8's and possibly take the excursion.
The organizers of the Central Terminal show approached us about displaying our modules at their two day show in September. They liked our layout and are reluctantly reconsidering their policy on donations to clubs to display their layouts. With GSME wanting us back in November, we need to consider the potential show schedule for next year and only commit to what we can support as a club.
Here is the list of possible shows:
- September 8 & 9 - Central Terminal ?
- October 28 - TTOS, Leonard Post (in new room?)
- November 11 - GSME show, Batavia Downs (w/ RASG) ?
- January 26 & 27 - TTOS, Leonard Post
- April - GSME show, Batavia Downs ?
We need to discuss the schedule and decide which shows we can do. We also need to schedule a few work sessions to complete the 2-footers.
Our next meeting will be at Harry Morath's home on May 20th at 1:30 PM:
11 Summerfield Dr
Please RSVP to Harry to let him know if you will be attending so he can plan accordingly. And note the time of the meeting.
As always, we need volunteers or ideas for future meetings.. June, July.?
Lew will tentatively host the August meeting. As an added incentive to host a meeting, the 50/50 will go to the host instead of the club.
