July 1, 2010

Roger Delthony made the trip to visit the Susquehanna S Gaugers annual “Steam-up” on May 23. He reported that they had a large loop set up approximately 20' x 40’ to 50'. It was actually a double loop with a crossover at one end. They pulled 165 AM and SHS cars around that loop - at first, with an AM Northern, then they tried it with one, then two GG1's. The train extended around six corners of the layout. They also had an automatic control layout set up in the center of the room with an automatic passing siding. Roger spent about four hours there and said it was a fun day. Sorry we missed it!

Dan Malkiewicz had his “L” / AF Big Boy pictured in two recent publications. The April issue of the NASG “Dispatch” Railmail column had a note from Dan (w/ a WNYSSA plug!) and a picture. The picture is on the club’s 4’x8’ layout at the January TTOS show (is that layout only 4x8?!). Then in the May/June issue of the TTOS Bulletin, Dan’s photo of his layout is on the backcover with the Big Boy rounding Horseshoe Curve! Great shots, Dan, and thanks for the plug!

For the bikers and hikers in the club, construction has been progressing on a rail trail on the old DL&W(?) line from Townline Road (Lancaster / Alden), west beyond Cemetery Road. Grading and paving has been progressing for several weeks and people have been using the trail recently. Anyone know how far west it goes? Into Lancaster? Beyond?

“L” released their 2010 Christmas catalog recently. There are 4 cars, a station platform, and an animated billboard in the holiday theme for Flyer this year.

Hallmark’s Christmas ornaments will be available in the next couple weeks. This year’s mini-Harley (S scale) is a ’72 XR-750 racing bike.

Dave Blaufuss advised that the Buffalo Bisons are giving away replicas of the Central Terminal at their August 5th game. Anyone interested in a WNYSSA night at the ballfield? Tickets range from $7.50 to $11. Maybe we can get tickets in Dave’s section! Let Gregg know if you are interested in attending.

We need volunteers and ideas for future meetings. We haven’t had a meeting since February.

Hello! Anybody out there? Anybody listening? Is this thing on?
