WESTERN NEW YORK S SCALE ASSOCIATIONhttp://trainweb.org/WNYSSA/
January 16, 2009

Not much new to report since we have not had a meeting since
November.
We have been busy with work sessions on Wednesday nights at Paul
Wachowicz’ home getting the 4x8 layout ready for display. There is another session next Wednesday, January 21, before the
layout’s debut at the TTOS Show at the Leonard Post on January 24th
and 25th. We completed and
tested the wiring this past week and need to do some clean-up and painting at
the next session prior to the show. The
scenery will continue to be a “work-in-progress” until it is done. Scenic backdrops have been ordered to be
installed on the divider and Paul has made rock molds and tunnel portals.
John Ondesko repaired the club’s two Flyer engines again. Thanks, John! We still need to fix the headlight on the American Models FA and
will probably need to buy a bulb.
In the previous
newsletter we mentioned that Pennsylvania Heritage Models (email: tom@paheritagemodels.com) is finally ready to release its S scale trolley and the
44-tonner. For those interested, each
unit should run about $160 for DC or non-reversing AC, and an additional $45
for reversing AC. The club is planning
to buy a 44-tonner and having it painted and lettered in Arcade and Attica RR’s
scheme (decals made in S by Modern Rails).
The trolleys come unpainted or in two painted versions, reversing
lights, and brass trolley poles.

Plan to attend the TTOS
Show at the Leonard Post on Walden Avenue on January 24th and 25th to help with the new
layout. Bring your piece of “real
estate” (buildings, scenery, vehicles, etc.) to place on the layout and a train
to run. Set-up should be quick but we will
start about 7:30 on Saturday morning
since this is the first time for the layout.
We will need coverage running trains Saturday until 3 PM, and from
9 AM Sunday until closing at 3 PM.
Teardown will be at approximately 3 PM.
This layout is single track so we don’t need as many trains to run at
one time, but will need them throughout both days. There are also 2 accessory tracks on sidings for dump cars, etc.
Unless there is a volunteer or another suggestion, our next
meeting will be SUNDAY, February 22, at 1
PM, at DANNY’S SOUTH:
4300 Abbott Road (and Rt 20A)
Orchard Park, NY
716/649-1194
This is the
same weekend as the WNYRHS show at the Agricenter and the restaurant is just
down Rt 20A next to Ralph Wilson Stadium.
You can attend the show in the morning and then join us for lunch. Please let Gregg (gmummert@hotmail.com, 716-866-2989,
585-655-3127) know if you plan to attend so we get a table large enough to
accommodate everyone.
Please use “Forever Stamps”
on your SASE’s to receive the newsletter.
Postage rates are going up again.
Thanks!
