Since the February meeting, we have held weekly work sessions at Paul Wachowicz’ home and have made great progress on the scenery. The center divider has been painted, backdrop added, and we have started “planting” vegetation. Watch for future work sessions to be scheduled.

The Club Contest concluded at a recent work session meeting and was deemed a tie between Paul Wachowicz’ engine house and Gregg Mummert’s re-built Flyer freight station. They split the $500 cash prize. Congrats!

We set up a combined modular layout again with the Rochester Area S Gaugers at the GSME show in Batavia the end of March. The show was well attended and everyone enjoyed the layout. Rochester provided the corners and several straights with operating accessories and Don Webster brought several straights with his Arcade buildings, a firehouse, and a new passenger station. Thanks to everyone that helped set-up, run trains, and teardown!

The club’s new 44 tonner was on display briefly on Don’s Arcade siding until it was picked up to have the decals made by Modern Rails. Hopefully it will be ready for the Fall shows.

Don has located some “S” scale people and has ordered a quantity if anyone is interested in populating their layout. They come painted, both sitting and standing figures in several poses, in bags of 100. He also has a source for LEDs too. Contact Don for details on both items (, 716/947-4558).

Michael Gillian from Brantford, ON joined the club at the Batavia show. Welcome, Mike! We may need to change the name of the club to “WNY & Ontario S Scale Assoc.” If you didn’t see them at the show, Mike has the following American Models Great Northern equipment (AC Hi-rail) for sale: an RS3 ($100), and a pair of FP7’s (both powered) with 5 streamline passenger cars ($400). Contact Mike if you are interested (519/756-8281).

Here is another tip to check the gauge of wheelsets… use the edge of a piece of 3/4” plywood, which is actually 23/32”, to gauge the wheels. This tip was found on one of the videos on Tom’s Turnouts’ website (

Several members are making plans to attend the S Spree near Cleveland in May and the NASG convention in St Louis in August.

The next meeting will be at Don Webster’s home on Sunday, April 26, at 1 PM.

6815 Gates Drive
Derby, NY

Call or email Don ( to let him know you will be attending.

We still need ideas and/or volunteers for future meetings for May, and beyond.
