October 2002 News Letter

The Rochester Area S-Gaugers held a meeting on October 20, at Chuck Smith's home. The minutes of that meeting are as follows;

Treasurer's report was presented by Mike Holland

End modules:  No progress since last report.  Duane, Ted and Chuck will reinitiate action.  We agreed to give this high priority.  If Ted can arrange a visit to see a modell RR in Victor we will look at scenicked rock walls for possible application to the river walls on these modules.

Batavia show on Nov. 10:  Duane will be away (getting hitched on Saturday) so he has graciously offered to let George Cole drive his truck. We will meet at Batavia at 7AM Sunday.

Farmington show:  The TTCS will now only host the spring show there, so this November we will only go to Batavia.

Sound:  Ted described a sound system that he thinks the club might find useful.  Ted agreed to get more detail on price and performance before we discuss it further.

Club modules:  Chuck Smith offered to give the 2 straight modules with switches to the club if the club replaced them with a 2x8 foot section of  layout.  The new 2 x 8 would require about 22' of track and 1 switch to fit into Chuck's layout.  AM track would cost about $90.  Roadbed and lumber would add to that.  We agreed to discuss it further after we deal with some higher priority items.

Figures:  Mike Holland wants to look into getting some S people to populate the station area.  It was suggested we look into some unpainted MTH pastic people.  There is some question whether these are available.  Ted Larson says they are always on backorder at Despatch Junction west. The consensus was that buying individual Artista figures is very expensive.

There is a show in Syracuse on the weekend of Nov. 2 and 3.  George Cole is checking into travel arrangements if anyone is interested.

We had a visitor after the business part of the meeting.  Mark Klemens is an S gauger relatively new to the area, and stopped by to see Chuck Smith's layout and meet the club members present.  He intends to stop by at Batavia so try to convince him how much fun we are.

Ted Larson and Chuck Smith worked on the problem switch on the corner module after the meeting.  It was definitely out of gauge. A little regauging and filing and we think it may be fixed.  We're getting too smart to claim victory til we see it in action. The ground throw is missing the actuator so we need a new ground throw.

On the layout we checked out the operation of the new crossing flashers.  They'll be in operation at Batavia.  Chuck found out the 9v batteries can be replaced by a power supply for $12.95.
