Black/Gold Diesels

The black and gold paint scheme followed the WM's original fireball diesel scheme which was adopted from its steam engines. This scheme first appeared in 1954 on rebuilt F3s. The stylized wings accompanied the "speed" lettering. By 1964 all active WM diesels were repainted into this scheme.

BL-2 7171 (ex 7181, nee 81) is shown here shuffling cars at Hagerstown yard. The BL-2s wore their B/G colors to the end and originally only received a "71" in front of their original road numbers. Later they were renumbered 7171 and 7172 to avoid a conflict with MARC commuter diesels (8/18/81)
