NORFOLK SOUTHERN
GE 6 AXLES DASH 9

NS did not get any Dash 9s from Conrail. They also never ordered any AC engines.

Dalton, Ga; October 1997
I am going to venture a guess that this Dash 9-40C is a Norfolk Southern exclusivity. Most of the 4000 hp GEs are Dash 9s not Dash 8s.

Macon; Ga; June 2000.
In the 1990s, Norfolk Southern went with the North American cab for their newest power such as 8970 a Dash 9-40CW.

Valdosta, Ga; December 1999.
Another Dash9-40CW is pulling a Southbound intermodal to Jacksonville.

Ashburn, Ga; December 2000.
After staking out the Cordele diamond all day under heavy fog; the sun finally comes out when it is almost time to go home. However, my patient gets rewarded when an Operation Lifesavers unit gets assigned a southbound freight. After several marginally good shot, I get to line up with a recently formed rainbow. A few miles west of here, tornadoes are pounding the Georgia plains.
NS 9255 Dash 9-40CW.

Macon, Ga; July 2000.
If some of these recently acquired Dash 9-40CW received a nice paint job, some units did not received any, and were still running in their primer suit almost 2 years after their purchase. Also NS has yet to purchase an engine with 4400 hp.
