February 1998; Northbound; CSXT 8098, CSXT 8033;
CSXT 6900; CSXT 2315.
SD40-2s and GP40-2s were the typical power on the Florida freights.
2 nd weekend of June 1999; Southbound; HATX
426 ex Chessie
One of the last sightings of the day was a former Chessie going solo.
There is probably a good business reason for this but it always looks funny.
Why would a railroad sell an engine to a leasing company and lease right
back from them?
2nd weekend of June 1999; northbound;
CSXT 8444, CSXT 8195; CSXT 8011; CSXT 7794; CSXT 2545; CSXT 8015.
Also typical on the freights are power dead in tow heading for the
shops in Waycross. It looks one of the lead engines is in need of a check-up!!!!
3rd weekend of June 1999; northbound;
CSXT 637, CSXT 6301.
When the AC6000s came out, they were found strictly on intermodals.
After the take-over of Conrail, all bets were off.
February 2001; S456; CSXT 7382 ex Conrail; CSXT 7904.
Almost 2 years after the take-over, a lot of Conrail units have been
repainted, mostly the newer ones. The only Conrail feature left are the
2 red lights on the nose.
February 2000; Q608; UP 6313; UP 9925; UP 2983, CSXT 5807, CSXT
1119, CSXT ????, CSXT 2327 (set with mate), CSXT 6565 (Chessie unit).
Another power move for the shops in Waycross. When older engines such
as the Chessie unit move through on the consist like this one, there is
always a sinking feeling for those of us trackside, if we ever going to
see that engine on active duty again or if it is heading for the dead line
in Waycross, the half way house to the cemetary...
