At approximately 01:30 EDT on Wednesday 4/23/03, CSXT train K277-22 was southbound from the New York area on the CSX Trenton Subdivision when the crew noticed tires and other debris placed on the tracks around the Neshaminy Falls SEPTA R-3 Regional Rail station in Bucks County , Pennsylvania. Shortly after striking the debris the train experienced an undesired emergency brake application causing six cars near the middle of the 108 car train to derail.
The derailed cars struck 2 SEPTA catenary poles, taking out the overhead power source for the Septa Regional Rail Trains. The derailment also blocked the Septa R-3 Commuter Rail Line. There were no injuries, and no hazardous materials in any of the affected cars. There is a problem in the area with vandals placing debris on the tracks. It is expected to take several days to restore full service to the Septa R-3 West Trenton Line.
Here we have the remains of 2 boxcars from the derailment near the Septa Neshaminy Falls SEPTA R-3 Regional Rail station in Bucks County ,Pa. The cars will eventually be cut up and removed from the site. 5/5/03.
