Burlington Northern 3140 leads two "pumpkins" on this westbound train. The lead engine is a GP50 and the 2nd two are SD40-2s. Union Pacific 9728 west detours on the BNSF Emporia subdivision in March 1999. UP 9728 is a Dash 8-40CW. Sometimes when the UP Marysville sub is congested UP runs on seldom used trackage rights from Kansas City to Hutchison, KS. At Hutchison the train enters the UP (former SP) Cotton-Rock line the runs from Topeka to Tucumcari, New Mexico. Photos by Eric Burris
BNSF 4311 east is switching at the Emporia, Ks yard in March 1999. 4311 is a new Dash 9-44CW. After the BNSF 4311 leaves, Santa Fe 876 leads a Triple Crown Roadrailer westbound at Emporia. SF 876 is a Dash 8-40CW. Photos by Eric Burris.
Southern Pacific 220( AC4400CW)east makes one of the first few runs to the KPL Power plant at Tecumseh, Ks on the BNSF Topeka sub. This trains is passing Emporia, ks at milepost 112 on May 9, 1999. The KPL/Pueblo coal trains come regularly since then several a week. They come from a Colorado coal mine. Photos by Eric Burris.
The BNSF Railroad Days Excursion train is headed towards Emporia, Ks round trip to Topeka, i think this is September 2000.
Southern Pacific 8276 is sitting at the Union Pacific yard at Topeka, KS in September 2000. The UP torch relay for the Olympics is on public display at Forbes Field, Topeka Railroad Days. I also am on the wonderful BNSF Dash9-44CW at RR Days.

Scott subdivision crosses the UP Coffeyville sub.
There are alot of trains through here. BNSF is light these days but UP keeps on a
comin'. Many coal trains has DPUs (remotely control locos) on both lines. This
place is a good hangout spot. This is during summer 2000, I think. I lost
track of dates with all these pics in a box and my memory is fuzzy.
BNSF Christmas Train at Emporia, Ks putting on a spectacular show indeed, before continuing to Topeka, KS during December 2000. This is the last year it ran.
Union Pacific 3985 steam locomotive heads westbound several miles northwest of Topeka, Ks on the UP Kansas City subdivision on June 23, 2001. It is headed to Marysville for an overnight stay on its way back to North Platte, Nebraska.
